Rector Search

Welcome to St. Mark's rector search site! You are probably here because you know that we are at present seeking the right person to be our fourteenth rector. You may be that person, and we very much appreciate your interest in this ministry. The site offers, in words and pictures, a full portrait of our parish, founded in 1877, the first Episcopal church in Berkeley (see the history section).

Central to the portrait is our congregation, and that section would be a good place to begin the quest for an understanding of the parish, describing as it does the congregation's character, its multifaceted life, its challenges. It is complemented by other pages devoted to our mission and ministry, our liturgy, our music ministry, and an account of our facilities and redevelopment plans (see also the 2010 Annual Report). The information on our surrounding community of Berkeley and the Bay Area provides another appealing perspective on the picture. Or you may well wish to begin by learning about the compelling vision we have of what our worshipping community is called to be.

However you approach this portrait of St. Mark's parish, we hope that it will help you significantly in your search to answer the question: Are you our next rector?

Yours in Christ,

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on
your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall
choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor,
who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
